We Are Gardeners Who… November 7, 2010

Check out the new sign in Explorer’s teaching garden. Created by last year’s Butterfly Buddy classes in rooms 2 and 14, the mosaic sign was sealed and installed this week by 8-year Explorer parent Mike Grubensky. Thank you, Mike!

The words on the sign express one version of the community guidelines students develop each year at the beginning of the gardening season. After exploring the garden in a scavenger hunt, and discovering the plants and animals that live in the garden, students think about how we should treat every one and every thing in the garden if everyone and everything is to thrive.

Welcome to the Explorer Elementary Teaching Garden Weblog! September 8, 2008

Welcome parents, teachers, students and garden friends to the Explorer Elementary Charter School Teaching Garden Weblog. I am the Garden Coordinator in our school garden. I am also a teacher and environmental educator by training, a freelance writer, and the mother of two wonderful Explorer students. This blog is to help the Explorer community stay connected to what is happening in the school garden. I’ll include information ¬†about what students are discovering in the garden, as well as photos of what is growing. I’ll also post information about work days, volunteer needs, amazing discoveries — such as the milkweed bush we planted last year that was covered with Monarch caterpillars the first day of school — and more. My goal is to update the blog weekly, so visit the site often and check out the latest garden news!

Good Growing,

Cindy Jenson-Elliott (Mrs. Elliott)
